This headline was pulled from an on-line source: "SALT LAKE CITY - A federal appeals court has refused yet again to stop gay marriage in Utah, making it more likely that same-sex weddings in the home of the Mormon church are here to stay for the immediate future."

How can it be "here to stay" but only for the immediate future? Which is it? Is "here to stay" now considered impermanent?

I agree, Geoff. The write-up seems to betray the uncertainty: what will the next court level decide?

I can see both sides - but I am more on your side, Geoff and Bethree. Still, I can see that the decision will stay for the immediate future, at least.
