 One of the meanings of strand is "the land bordering the sea, a lake, or a river; shore; beach". See definition 5. on Dictionary.com. The verb to strand comes from the idea of being washed up on a beach. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life. | |||
