In the newspaper I saw the word 'prime' used in a way unfamiliar to me. Comments? quote: Decaying cities tthrough out history – Rome in the 5th century, Venice in the 18th – both suffered from a decayed sense of civic purpose and prime.

| Well, it surely could be "pride." The adjectival form of "prime" would work, but I don't see that the noun form works. |
