I hadn't heard of it, but it seems to mean the act of plundering or the state of being despoiled. How was it used?

It's a perfectly cromulent word, used since at least 1657. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Well, Yarrow knows more about language than I thought! And, I see arnie has overdosed on The Simpsons. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -J. Krishnamurti
