From the Lincoln Courier
quote:
A spirit group at the 420-student junior high has provided the regional superintendent's office with the names of 80 students who have been truant, Bunner said today.

I'm confused: junior high attendance is being monitored by ghosts?

Isn't school spirit something like chauvinism writ small? Smells like teen spirit to me ...

Yeah, but I got thrown-out for cheating on my necromancy exam: I summoned the ancestors of the boy sitting next to me.

We didn't have a spirit group at my school. We did have a beer group that met daily in the public bar of the local pub. Spirits were rather to strong for us, and, more importantly, expensive.

The teachers had their own group that met in the saloon bar; for some reason they never seemed to see us. Come to think of it, the teachers may have been drinking spirits; I should think they'd need to be well-fortified to face us every day.

Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I sure think that's an odd use of "spirit."
