take your hand...hold my hand

There's a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.

There's a time for us,
Someday a time for us,
Time together with time to spare,
Time to learn, time to care

Someday
Somewhere
We'll find a new way of living,
We'll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere

There's a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow,
Someday,
Somewhere

Somewhere

You're right about that, Kalleh!

It seems that most people who post here either don't understand the rule, or choose to ignore them. Not everyone, but many people seem to just post whatever song they choose. Following the rules makes it a little harder and, to my mind, more challenging, since you have to find a word or phrase that appears both in the song you link to and in the song you post.

Here are Morgan's original rules:
quote:
In posting lyrics, please ~

~ confine the lyrics to four lines or less
~ boldface the Linking word or phrase
~ identify the title of the song, and
~ identify the composer or first performer of the song

OK. Here we go.

And here is Kalleh's restatement of the rules:
quote:
Now, this is a fun game, though I will review our very simple rules.

1) Find a word or phrase in the previous lyrics that you want to link to.

2) Post about four lines of your new song, with the name of either the writer or the singer.

3) At the top, in bold letters (or italics, or whatever!), write the word or phrase that the previous poster linked to, and then the word or the phrase that you linked to. That means, the next poster will have "get ready" as the first phrase, and then whatever they decide to link to as the next word or phrase (e.g., it might be "break your heart.)

Clear as mud?

Kalleh's right. The rules are simple. And they are clear as mud.

They must be difficult, since they are so rarely followed. Or are they just ignored?

Morgan's first rule, "confine the lyrics to four lines or less," is universally ignored. Most people, including me, post the whole song, not just a portion of it.

Here second rule, "boldface the Linking word or phrase," is a bit confusing, since "Linking word or phrase" is not defined. The posts indicated that most people didn't understand this rule. Kalleh attempted to clarify it in her third rule. But the posts reveal that some understand it, while others either don't understand it or choose to ignore it.

What is the linking word or phrase? It's a word or phrase that appears both in the song you link to, and in the song you post. Use the linking word or phrase that the previous poster used. It should appear boldfaced in the link and wherever it is used in the song. Find another word or phrase in the song that also appears in the song you want to link to. Post the word or phrase from the previous poster, followed by three dots, then your linking word or phrase. This should be boldfaced. To use Kalleh's example (rule 3, above): get ready ... break your heart.

No one seems to have trouble following Morgan's third and fourth rules, "identify the title of the song" , and "identify the composer or first performer of the song."

I would also like to see a link to a website containing the song, if you can find one.

So it seems that the problem is in linking, Morgan's second rule, and Kalleh's third. I hope my explanation has made it clearer.

I like this game, and I like the linking rules. Many times I've wanted to post a particular song but didn't because I couldn't find a linking word. I'd like to see it played according to the rules, with one exception. I see no need to "confine the lyrics to four lines or less," I see nothing wrong with posting the whole song, providing it's not too long.

I might post another song,
But I'd likely get it wrong.
To demonstrate just how I think,
I'll provide you with a link.

BobKberg posts a worthless rhyme
Since he lacks both space and time,
Leaving it to Jerry Thomas
whose post is also hit and miss.

Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers Jerry, but since you asked for help with your "hard" limerick, I'm feeling "free" with your posts as well.

hold my hand ... I want to hold your hand

Oh yeah, I'll tell you something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

Oh please, say to me
You'll let me be your man
And please, say to me
You'll let me hold your hand.
Now let me hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

Yeah, you've got that something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

Yeh, you've got that something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll feel that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

Yes, Tinman, I agree...and it makes it a game, not just a post of a song. Thanks for reminding us of the rules.

The one rule that can be hard to follow is posting only 4 lines. Sometimes the words that you're linking to are way down in the song, and posting only those 4 lines means it doesn't make sense. However, I will try to do that, too.

Rules are like pigs because "rules is rules". Take the four lines only rule of Morgan's original set. Before Kalleh posted her rules, here's how the count of lines posted from the beginning went: Kalleh 3, Morgan 4, TrossL 7, C J Strolin 5, Morgan 7, shuffitz 8, TrossL 8, BobHale 8, TrossL 12, Kalleh 8, Morgan 8, etc. So, Morgan breaks her own rule on her second posting. When Tinman gets around to posting, it's up to 12 lines. I'd say ab initio it was a rule more honored in the breach than in the observance. Do carry on, though.

I feel . . . pity

Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Isn't It a Pity by George Harrison.

And isn't it odd that "pity" is spelled with just one t but pronounced as if it has two?

As for the rules discussion, I think the linking words and bolding is helpful because it punches out the reason you posted your song. I like the inclusive nature of this game, though and if someone feels a link to a song that doesn't contain exact words, just sharing what that link is would be cool with me.

Without thinking anymore ... Without thinking

Yellow is the colour of my true love's hair,
In the morning, when we rise, / In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time, / I love the best.

Blue's the colour of the sky-y,
In the morning, when we rise, / In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time, / I love the best.

Green's the colour of the sparklin' corn,
In the morning, when we rise, / In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time, / I love the best.

Mellow is the feeling that I get,
When I see her, m-hmm, / When I see her, oh yeah.
That's the time, that's the time, / I love the best.

Freedom is a word I rarely use,
Without thinking, m-hmm,
Without thinking, oh yeah.
Of the time, of the time, / When I've been loved.

Without thinking...green

Green eyed lady, lovely lady
Strolling slowly towards the sun
Green eyed lady, ocean lady
Soothing every wave that comes

Green eyed lady, passion's lady
Dressed in love, she lives for life to be
Green eyed lady feels like I never see
Setting suns and lonely lovers free

Green eyed lady, windswept lady
Moves the night, the waves, the sand
Green eyed lady, ocean lady
Child of nature, friend of man

Green eyed lady passion's lady
Dressed in love she lives for life to be
Green eyed lady feels like I never see
Setting sons and lonely lovers free

awwwww. Not It's Not Easy being Green? Wink

Setting suns and lonely lovers free ... lonely lovers come to rest

Love and maple syrup goes together
Like the sticky winds of winter when they meet
When lonely lovers come to rest
Beneath the trees they do their best
But still they can't be free
Looking for the world to be
Anything but what they see
Longing to be understood
By the heart that shapes the wood.

Well, in all fairness, that was the one rule that I said was hard to keep. Oftentimes people want to read the whole song, though, like Tinman said, I suppose we could link to the song.

I don't like the 4-line rule, I've decided. Was it the rule, or did Morgan say "about 4 lines?"

No, I don't like the four-line rule, either. As I said earlier, I see nothing wrong with posting the whole song, unless it's terribly long. It's sometimes hard finding something to link to with just four lines. I like to post the entire song and a link.

I would rather see the entire song, not just four lines from it, because a song (usually) tells a story, and it feels wrong to excise a chunk from the whole. Of course, we do that when we post lines from a book, but a book is too long to treat otherwise and a song is not.

I've had the same misgivings in church when the music director instructs the congregation to "Sing verses one and three!" of a hymn. I feel we're doing the lyricist an injustice.

by the heart...desert

My sisters and I
Have this wish before we die
And it may sound strange
As if our minds are deranged
Please don't ask us why
Beneath the sheltering sky
We have this strange obsession
You have the means in your possession

We want our tea in the Sahara with you
We want our tea in the Sahara with you

The young man agreed
He would satisfy their need
So they danced for his pleasure
With a joy you could not measure
They would wait for him here
The same place every year
Beneath the sheltering sky
Across the desert he would fly

Tea in the Sahara with you
Tea in the Sahara with you

The sky turned to black
Would he ever come back?
They would climb a high dune
They would pray to the moon
But he'd never return
So the sisters would burn
As their eyes searched the land
With their cups full of sand

Tea in the Sahara with you
Tea in the Sahara with you
Tea in the Sahara with you
Tea in the Sahara with you

Tea in the Sahara

And it may sound strange ... I know this may sound strange

Once I had a pretty girl
Her name it doesn't matter
She went away with another guy
Now he won't even look at her

Hats Off To Larry
He broke your heart
Just like you broke mine
When you said we must part
He told you lies,
Now it's your turn to cry cry cry
Now that Larry's said goodbye to you

I know this may sound strange
I want you back I think you'll change
But there's one more thing I got to say

Hats off to Larry
It may sound cruel
But you laughed at me
When you said we were through
He told you lies now its your turn to cry cry cry
Now that Larry's said goodbye to you

I know this may sound strange...goodbye

Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye

Don't try to stop me, Horace, please....

Wave your little hand and whisper
So long, dearie
You ain't gonna see me anymore
And when you discover that your life is dreary
Don't you come a knockin' at my door
'Cause I'll be all dolled up
And singin' that song
That says you dog, I told you so
So wave your little hand and whisper
So long, dearie
Dearie should have said so long
So long ago

Because you've treated me so rotten and rough
I've had enough of feelin' low
So wave your little hand and whisper
So long, dearie
Dearie should have said so long
So long ago

For I can hear that choo choo callin' me on
To a fancy new address
Yes, I can hear that choo choo callin' me on
On board that happiness express
I'm gonna learn to dance and drink and smoke a cigarette
I'm goin' as far away from Yonkers as a girl can get

So...on those cold winter nights, Horace...
You can snuggle up to your cash register.
It's a bit lumpy but it rings!

Don't come a knockin'
I'll be all dolled up
And singin' that song
That says you dog, I told you so
So Horace, you will find your life a sad old story
You'll be livin' in that lonesome territory
When you see your Dolly shuffle off to glory
Oh I should have said so long...
How could I have been wrong?
Oh, I should have said so long...
So Long ago!

So Long, Dearie

Arnie, apparently not everyone plays this game the same. However, I thought the original rules were to find a word or phrase in the posted song (choo choo) that's also in the song that you post. Thereby, you are "linking the lyrics." You then embolden the words that the previous person linked (in this case, "goodbye") and the words that you linked to (thus, "choo choo"). That was the connection between "goodbye" and "choo choo." I suspect not everyone plays this way, though.

Ah! I think I see!

It was your bolding of 'goodbye' that confused me. I'd have emboldened 'choo choo' twice, as the same couple of words appears in each song.

EDIT: Actually, I'd probably have written it thus:
hear that choo choo ... Chattanooga choo choo

This message has been edited. Last edited by: arnie,

I agree with arnie: show where the linking phrase occurs in the song you link to, and in the song you provide. Why go back to the previous song?

It seems to me that the 4-line rule is unnecessarily limiting, and doesn't give the next person enough to work with.

pardon me boys ... beg your pardon

There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
It is a special one, it's never seen the sun
It only comes out when the moon is on the run
And all the stars are gleaming
It's growing in the street right up through the concrete
But soft and sweet and dreamin'

There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
With eyes as black as coal that look down in my soul
And starts a fire there and then I lose control
I have to beg your pardon
I'm going to pick that rose and watch her as she grows
In my garden

While hiding out from the REA (Rule-Enforcement Agents) I'd like to make one more unlinked lyric post.

Having gradually forsaken most other elements of the Mass Media due to the silence of deafness and changing interests due to the creepiing symptoms of premature Middle Age, I have immersed myself into the Cyber World. Frequently I see the phrase "Pay per view," and it always triggers a certain song that echoes obsessively through the emptiness of my cranium.

I never feel a thing is real
When I'm away from you
Out of your embrace
The world's a temporary parking place

Mmm, mm, mm, mm
A bubble for a minute
Mmm, mm, mm, mm
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it

Say, its only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played in a penny arcade

It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

The hottest songs from Ella Fitzgerald

Here's the possible beginning of a possible parody ...

"Say, it's only a pay per view
Sailing over a blank CD ..... "

And all the stars are gleaming - bright stars that shine

The new moon rode high in the crown of the metropolis
Shinin, like who on top of this?
People was tusslin, arguin and bustlin
Gangstaz of Gotham hardcore hustlin
I'm wrestlin with words and ideas
My ears is picky, seekin what will transmit
the scribes can apply to transcript, yo
This ain't no time where the usual is suitable
Tonight alive, let's describe the inscrutable
The indisputable, we New York the narcotic
Strength in metal and fiber optics
where mercenaries is paid to trade hot stock tips
for profits, thirsty criminals take pockets
Hard knuckles on the second hands of workin class watches
Skyscrapers is collosus, the cost of living
is preposterous, stay alive, you play or die, no options
No Batman and Robin, can't tell between
the cops and the robbers, they both partners, they all heartless
With no conscience, back streets stay darkened
Where unbeliever hearts stay hardened
My eagle talons STAY sharpened, like city lights stay throbbin
You either make a way or stay sobbin, the Shiny Apple
is bruised but sweet and if you choose to eat
You could lose your teeth, many crews retreat
Nightly news repeat, who got shot down and locked down
Spotlight to savages, NASDAQ averages
My narrative, rose to explain this existance
Amidst the harbor lights which remain in the distance

[Chorus]
So much on my mind that I can't recline
Blastin holes in the night til she bled sunshine
Breathe in, inhale vapors from bright stars that shine
Breathe out, weed smoke retrace the skyline
Heard the bass ride out like an ancient mating call
I can't take it y'all, I can feel the city breathin
Chest heavin, against the flesh of the evening
Sigh before we die like the last train leaving

I see your point, Goofy, about it being poetic. Interesting. Perhaps I should listen to that music more. It reminds me of my initial judgment of "The Simpsons;" immediately, without watching much of it, I considered it to be trash. Yet, when I did watch more of it, I found some subtle and clever humor.

bright stars that shine . . . on my mind

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through (the whole day through)
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind (Georgia on my mind)
I said a Georgia, Georgia
A song of you (a song of you)
Comes as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in the peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said Georgia, oh Georgia, no peace I find (no peace i find)
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind (Georgia on my mind oh)

on my mind ... Always on my Mind

Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied, satisfied

Maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine
If I make you feel second best
Girl, I'm sorry I was blind

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died

(Arnie - Insomnia does wonders, eh?)

on my mind . . . keep you satisfied

You were my wife, my life, my hopes and dreams
For you to understand what this means, I shall explain
I stood all the jealousy, all the bitchin' too
Yes, I'd forget it all once in bed with you
Ooo darling how could we end up like this?
Oh baby let me reminisce

Oh and when we, woo, stopped the hands of time
You set my soul on fire, my one desire
Was to love you and think of you with pride
And keep you satisfied, oh baby oh baby
We could not bear the mental strain
Leave you, I laugh at men too
Now you see how much you hurt me
But if you ever need me, I'll be by your side
Though the many happy times we had
Can never really outweigh the bad
Oh I'll never love nobody like I loved you baby

keep you satisfied ... Keep the Customer Satisfied

Gee but it's great to be back home,
Home is where I want to be.
I've been on the road so long my friend,
And if you came along
I know you couldn't disagree.
It's the same old story
Everywhere I go,
I get slandered,
Libeled,
I hear words I never heard
In the Bible.
And I'm one step ahead of the shoe
shine,
Two steps away from the county line,
Just trying to keep my customers
satisfied,
Satisfied.

Deputy Sheriff said to me
Tell me what you come here for, boy.
You better get your bags and flee.
You're in trouble boy,
And now you're heading into more.
It's the same old story
Everywhere I go,
I get slandered,

It's the same old story Everywhere I go ... It's still the same old story

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss,
A sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.

And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs, never out of date.
Hearts full of passion, jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny.

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Satisfied Mind

(By Rhodes & Hayes)(Starrite Music)

How many times have you heard someone say
"If I had his money, I could do things my way?"
Little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind.

Once I was winning in fortune and fame
Everything that I dreamed for to get a start in life's game
Suddenly it happened, I lost every dime
But I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Or a friend when you're lonely, or a love that's grown cold
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind

When my life is ended, my time has run out
My trials and my loved ones, I'll leave them no doubt
But one thing's for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind

I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend
If it makes you feel all right
I'll get you anything my friend
If it makes you feel all right
'Cause I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

Can't Buy Me Love

Song: We're In the Money Lyrics
Annie, Peggy, Lorraine, Phyllis, Billy and Ensemble:
- I got it!
- Well, what is it?
- A penny, a nickel...
- You got hold yo' horses and let me get the dough off!
A dime!

We're in the money,
We're in the money;
We've got a lot of what it takes to get along!
We're in the money,
The sky is sunny;
Old Man Depression, you are through,
You done us wrong!

We never see a headline
'Bout breadline, today,
And when we see the landlord,
We can look that guy right in the eye .

We're in the money
Come on, my honey
Let's spend it, lend it,
Send it rolling around!

All:
We're in the money,
We're in the money;
We've got a lot of what it takes to get along!
We're in the money,
The sky is sunny;
Old Man Depression, you are through,
You done us wrong!

We never see a headline
'Bout breadline, today,
And when we see the landlord,
We can look that guy right in the eye.
Look that guy right in the eye-
Look that guy right in the eye-

We're in the money
Come on, my honey
Let's spend it, lend it, send it-
Let's spend it, lend it, send it
Rolling, rolling-
Rolling around!

Additional Verse
Gone are my blues,
And gone are my tears;
I've got good news
To shout in your ears.
The silver dollar has returned to the fold,
With silver you can turn your dreams to gold.

Old Man Depression ... Ol' Man River

Ol' Man River, that Ol' Man River
He must know somepin', but he don't say nothin'
He just keeps rollin', he keeps on rollin' along

He don't plant taters, and he don't plant cotton
And them what plants 'em is soon forgotten
But Ol' Man River, jest keeps rollin' along

You and me, we sweat and strain
Bodies all achin' and wracked with pain
Tote that barge and lift that bale
Ya get a little drunk and ya lands in ja-ail

I gets weary and so sick of tryin'
I'm tired of livin', but I'm feared of dyin'
And Ol' Man River, he just keeps rollin' along

Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Left a good job in the city,
Workin for the man evry night and day,
And I never lost one minute of sleepin,
Worryin bout the way things might have been.

Chorus:
Big wheel keep on turnin,
Proud mary keep on burnin,
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river .

rollin on the river . . . . night and day

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall

Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating
You, you, you

Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon or under the sun
Whether near to me, or far
It's no matter darling where you are
I think of you
Day and night, Night and day, why is it so

That this longing for you follows wherever I go
In the roaring traffic's boom
In the silence of my lonely room
I think of you
Night and day,

Under the hide of me
There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And this torment won't be through
Until you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, Night and day

by Cole Porter

Night and Day - My Grandfather's Clock

My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half
Than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;

But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.
Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

... silver dollar ...

QUEEN OF THE SILVER DOLLAR
(Written by Shel Silverstein)
Emmylou Harris

She arrives in all her splendor
Each night at nine o'clock
Her chariot is the crosstown bus
That stops right down the block
Now the old piano minstrel plays her tune as
she walks in
And the Queen of the Silver Dollar's home
again

She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
She rules this smokey kingdom
Scepter is a wine glass and a bar stool is
her throne
Now the jesters flock around her tryin’ to
win her favors
To see which one will take the
Queen of the Silver Dollar home

Now her royal dress is satin
It's shabby and it's torn
The royal jewels are rhinestones
The shoes are scuffed and worn
Of the many roads she's been down,
And the places that she's seen
Well they all look at her and say God save
the queen

Now the Queen of the Silver Dollar
Is not as haughty as she seems
She was once an ordinary girl with ordinary
dreams
But there's a man who found her
And he brought her to this world
He's the one who made a queen of a simple
country girl

Yes I'm the Queen of the Silver Dollar
I rule this smokey kingdom
Scepter is a wine glass and a bar stool is
my throne
Now the jesters flock around me tryin' to win
my favors
To see which one will take the
Queen of the Silver Dollar home

Yes I'm the Queen of t he Silver Dollar

I rule this smokey kingdom
Scepter is a wine glass and a bar stool is
my throne
Now the jesters flock around me tryin' to win
my favors
To see which one will take the
Queen of the Silver Dollar home

Well, I thought I had it with Louie Louie; I had planned to link "Each night at" with Jerry's lyrics (line 2) above. However, in reviewing the lyrics, I found this article by Snopes saying that the what I'd thought were the lyrics all along, really weren't. I am in good company, though; apparently the FBI never could figure out the words in the song. Roll Eyes

That is a great link, Kalleh! The Ohio State University uses Louie, Louie as it's unofficial second fight song. Funny!

She was once an ordinary girl with "ordinary dreams"...

AN ORDINARY FOOL
Words and music by Paul Williams
Sung by Karen Carpenter on "Voices of the Heart" album

Only a fool, like fools before me
I always think with my heart
Only a fool
That same old story
Seems I was born for the part

It's a lesson that I've learned
And a page I should have turned
I shouldn't cry, but I do
Like an ordinary fool
When his ordinary dreams fall through

ordinary dreams ...Ordinary Day

Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.
And as he asked if I would come along
I started to realize
That everyday he finds
Just what he's looking for,
Like a shooting star he shines.

He said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand

And as he spoke, he spoke ordinary words
Although they did not feel
For I felt what I had not felt before
And you'd swear those words could heal.
And as I looked up into those eyes
His vision borrows mine.
And I know he's no stranger,
For I feel I've held him for all of time.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand.

Please come with me,
See what I see.
Touch the stars for time will not flee.
Time will not flee.
Can you see?

Just a dream, just an ordinary dream.
As I wake in bed
And the boy, that ordinary boy
Or was it all in my head?
Did he asked if I would come along
It all seemed so real.
But as I looked to the door,
I saw that boy standing there with a deal.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see all your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand,
In the palm of your hand.

Just a day, just an ordinary day
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.

...we'll go (Lana dear)/So far away (Lana dear)

So far away, Carole King wrote & sang on album Tapestry (late '70's?)
So far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're just time away

Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you're so far away

One more song about movin' along the highway
Can't say much of anything that's new
If I coild only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend in bein' close to you.

But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away

... along the highway ... Highway Chile

Yeah, his guitar slung across his back
His dusty boots is his cadillac
Flamin’ hair just a blowin’ in the wind
Ain’t seen a bed in so long it’s a sin
He left home when he was seventeen
The rest of the world he had longed to see
But everybody knows the boss
A rolling stone who gathers no moss

But you’d probably call him a tramp
But it goes a little deeper than that
He’s a highway chile, yeah

Now some people say he had a girl back home
Who messed around and did him pretty wrong
They tell me it kinda hurt him bad
Kinda made him feel pretty sad
I couldn’t say what went through his mind
Anyway, he left the world behind
But everybody knows the same old story,
In love and war you can’t lose in glory

Now you’d probably call him a tramp
But I know it goes a little deeper than that
He’s a highway chile

Walk on brother, yeah
One more brother

His old guitar slung across his back
His dusty boots is his cadillac
Flamin’ hair just a blowin’ in the wind
Ain’t seen a bed in so long it’s a sin

Now you may call him a tramp
But I know it goes a little deeper than that
He’s a highway chile

Walk on brother
Don’t let no one stop you
Highway chile
Yeah yeah yeah
Highway chile
Go on down the highway
Highway chile
Yeah yeah yeah
Highway chile

Highway Chile...Yeah yeah yeah

She Loves You
~ The Beatles

She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

You think you lost your love,
When I saw her yesterday.
It's you she's thinking of
And she told me what to say.
She says she loves you
And you know that can't be bad.
Yes, she loves you
And you know you should be glad.

You think you lost your love ... Lost Love

I lost the love I needed,
the love to make me strong.

I left the love I needed,
how could I be so wrong?

If I were only granted
the right to start anew,
my love would be lost to you.

Lost love behind me
true love won't find me
because I'm so lost.

For all the years I wasted
and all mistakes I made
for all the loves I tasted
how dearly I have paid.

If I could be forgiven,
for all the pain I caused?

Too late,
my fate is lost.

Lost love behind me
true love won't find me
because I'm so lost.

Bobby Darin

Dory Previn - Play It Again, Sam

Play it, Sam
Play it again
Take me back to you-know-when
Let’s hear it, Sam,
For good old world war two
Do-do-do-do-do-do
Play it, Sam
Play it again
Gee, the world was simple then
Back when hearts were brave
And love was true
Then we knew the good guys
Then we knew the bad, the bad
Right was right and wrong was wrong
According to Mom and Dad and we believed them
Then a war was called a war
Proud as trumpet horns
But a rose by any other name
Still has thorns
Do-do-do
Play it, Sam,
Play it for me
Take me where I want to be
Back with you
And good old world war two
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Far away
I just can’t make today
Far as I can be
From good old world war three
