Great idea, Kalleh. But if you come to NZ you need to come for at least 2-3wks, it's too long a journey for less. I can take time off work to show you round!! Smile

Is wordmatic coming to NZ this month? I'm having trouble using the PM here - if you're going to be in Hawkes Bay, PM me, wordmatic. We have the best wineries - lots of beer too of course, since I remember that's what you all mostly talk about! Smile

Excellent, bethree5!

At least, I think so; I have never quite understood the rules for DDs and have absolutely no talent myself for their composition myself. I'm sure Kalleh or one of the other experts will be able to give a more expert opinion.

stella: I'm afraid you're too late; I believe WM got back from NZ a few days ago.

Here's one I posted recently in Community:

Budily Weiserly
Richard, our Wordcrafter,
Oh so politely said,
"Pour me a drink."

Bartender Ron, being
Machiavellian,
Served him a Bud, asking
"What do you think?"

And in response:

Beerily, Fearily
Richard, our Englander,
Sipped from the glass of beer,
Saying, "It stinks!"

Kalleh, his sneaky friend,
Drank from his stein and said,
Supermaliciously,
"Mmmm, you are wrong," and she
Silently winks.

Geez...too major errors in one week! First I post the wrong "it's"...and then above I posted 5 lines in the second part of my DD! What a complete dufus.

Here is my workshopped second DD:

Beerily, Fearily
Richard, our Englander,
Sipped from the glass of beer,
Saying, "It stinks!"

Kalleh, his sneaky friend,
Supermaliciously,
Said, "You are wrong!" and she
Silently winks.

Well, at least I was honest. I could have just gone back, changed the DD, and then the "too" post wouldn't have even happened.

So...which would you rather have, someone who makes mistakes and admits it or someone who makes mistakes and covers it up?

Too major errors this week

7 syllables.

Sorry, but you did ask.

Well, I admit that the stresses are not that great...but to me that's 6 and not 7 syllables. Is "errors" 2 syllables for you? I say it with 1.

This is one of the more noticeable differences between US and UK English.

Words like error and mirror are pronounced with two quite distinct syllables in UK English. This is relatively uncommon in my experience. Generally US English seems less likely to slur two syllables into one than is UK English.

For example, "fire" is bi-syllabic in some forms of US English but monosyllabic (although with a diphthong) in UK English.

I say "error" just as I say "mirror" or "fire" or "world." They all, to me, have about 1 1/2 syllables, but can pass in a limerick or DD for 1. I was very surprised that Bob, the one who smooshes all syllables, cited me on that! Roll Eyes

Revival and welcome to a new Wordcrafter...

We've had a lot of new registrants, and I welcome newbies to our forum when they register. However, one had a very interesting name that I just can't resist writing a double dactyl on. For the rest of you newbies...I don't mean to be neglecting you, but how could I not pay attention to "Anagrammarian?"
