Hi Folks,

Sorry didn't realise there was a redefinitions game going. Have added it to my Email Notifications and will put any further re-word definitions in that thread.

Unless, of course, they're "dis-" words; those go into the dis- game thread. (Any DISTORTION will have to be untwisted, and the wrong righted.).)

which reminds me of

DESPOT - to clean

Who's up for starting "The anti-dis-game" where we come up with new definitions for existing words, or brand new words based on taking the opposite of a real meaning of a DIS-... or DE-...-word as the meaning of what's left when DIS or DE are removed.

Proposed Format:

WORD - meaning (DISWORD)

For example:

TER - encourage (DETER)

COUNT - increase the prices (DISCOUNT)

CREPIT - in good shape (DECREPIT)

If at least 3 people reckon it is worth pursuing I will start a new thread for it?

Not sure we need a new thread for it - it's a Redefinition, or a dis- game word, or both, and we go back and forth already...

FLOWER - 1. sew the hymen back in; 2. tear down the dam

(Compare DEFLOWER - build a dam across the river)

In the same vein - shouldn't DEFLOWER be a synonym of DISASTER? Or even LACKADAISICAL?

(No, silly, LACKADAISICAL means "the speaker's stand is missing")
